Hello! This is Luther with a Groschopp Tech Tip. In this video, we will be demonstrating how to use the motor search tool on our website.
Groschopp’s motor search tool helps users quickly select their desired motor components. By clicking on each category, people can easily customize a motor according to their applications’ needs.
I’ll just click a few here to show you how simple this process is.
As you can see, our motor search tool has been set up for your convenience, but for those of you who would like a more thorough walk-through of this process, we’ve put together this video to make your experience an even better one.
Let’s quickly familiarize ourselves with each component. We have our Motor Types, Gearbox or Reducer Type, Voltage, Phase (for AC Motors), and the Dominant Variable.
First, we select our Motor Type. For this example, we’ll choose AC, however, if you are unsure of the best type of motor for your applications leave the selection on “all motors”. This will give you the broadest range of options.
Next, select the gearbox you will be using. For if you are searching only for motors leave “motor only” selected; and if you are unsure of the type of reducer you will be using select “all gearboxes”. For our example, we will choose Parallel shaft.
If you will notice each time that we made a selection to the search parameters, our results automatically updated. As you can see we currently have 597 gearmotors in our results, so let’s narrow these down some more.
We are now ready to select our voltage. Note that when the motor type is selected the voltages that do not apply to that specific motor are grayed out and not available for selection. For our example, let’s select 230V motors. As you can see our results have narrowed down to 500 gearmotors.
Now let’s move onto selecting our phase parameter. For our example we will be looking for a 3ph 60Hz gearmotor.
We are finally ready to move onto our last parameters. First select your dominant variable. Or rather, this is where you should determine what is most important to your application. Is it the speed, torque, or power? For this example, we will say torque. Now, using the Torque slider, let’s set the range for this final variable. (154.7-230.5) Note that as you change the variable, not only do your results narrow, but the speed and power ranges automatically change as well; allowing you to verify that these specifications fit with in your application.
The left portion of the tool provides basic search options: motor type, gearbox style, voltage and phase. You can choose to narrow down a category to an individual search option or leave it open if requirements are less specific. Each basic search selection you make adjusts the maximum and minimum range available for the speed, torque and power of the chosen selection.
As you can see, we have narrowed our search down to 35 results to choose from. We can use the table to compare and select a product number to look closer at the gearmotor that interests us.
If the results aren’t quite what you are looking for or you entered an incorrect search parameter use the reset search button to start over.
Before we go: here are a few other quick tips when searching for your motor.
- The motor search tool is available on the AC, DC and Brushless pages. When looking for information on the advantages and specifications of a motor with different gearbox combinations, it is best to use the tool on individual pages as they highlight the strengths of each gearmotor type.
- Need to quickly convert or calculate units? Download our STP (speed, torque, power) calculator to easily convert between English or metric units and to calculate torque based on speed and power, or vice versa.
- Know your duty cycle. Our search results are based on continuous duty operation, but you can often use a smaller motor when running at intermittent duty, saving on space and cost. With our advanced software, our sales team can match you with the best motor type for your intermittent application.
- We offer modified and custom motors to fit harsh environments or challenging applications. You can begin virtually modifying a motor by using our “Customize It” tool on individual product pages. For a custom design that doesn’t fit our standard models, contact the Groschopp sales team.
- We have 150,000 possible motor combinations; not all of our products are listed on our website. If you can’t find the motor you need on our site, contact the sales team to see what other standard or custom options may be available to you.
For more information on how our motor search tool works, visit our help page or click the question mark icon in the search tool. If you have questions regarding which motor or gearmotor works best for your application, please call one of our technical sales staff at 800.829.4135.
