Working in the “Fast Lane” to Turn Quality
How Groschopp Responds to Customers’ Fast Turnaround Expectations
In today’s world of Google, overnight shipping, fast food, and plastic money, everybody wants something and they want it quickly. Delivering products in such a timely manner is a challenge to many businesses and can cause many logistical headaches. Our customers depend on us to produce motors and gearmotors promptly so, in turn, they can deliver to their customers. How has Groschopp adapted to today’s fast paced society? Groschopp has countered with Department 218, a.k.a. our “Fast Track Department”.
Groschopp uses the Fast Track Department to quickly build motors to meet customer’s demands. Our “Fast Track” department contains some of the most experienced members of our manufacturing facility. Their ability to build motors quickly is crucial to respond to our customers’ time-sensitive needs with quality workmanship. They are trained on a wide variety of motors and reducers.
Groschopp uses a Kanban storage system to maintain inventory for fast and accurate builds. After the entire build process is complete Department 218 has two rooms designated for testing the motors/gearmotors. Computers and high tech testing equipment allow them to perform accurate tests on the hand-built motors. From there the motors are packed with the help of a sophisticated Styrofoam packaging system.
Department 218 is supported by the tool and die department. The tool and die department develops custom solutions for our entire manufacturing facility. We also have state-of-the-art equipment operated by very experienced machinists, allowing us to accomplish special modifications precisely and efficiently. With the help of experienced people and high tech machines, the tool and die department has developed many custom tools for Department 218 to help them assemble motors more quickly.
From an internal efficiency standpoint department 218 is not ideal but we offer this department for our customer’s benefit. We realize that it is difficult to plan for every eventuality and we want to be there for customers when they need us. The “Fast Track” department is our way of working in the “Fast Lane”.
