Is Groschopp a motor manufacturer or distributor?
We are a fractional horsepower electric motor manufacturer. We build and assemble all of our motors and gearmotors in-house, at our location in Sioux Center, Iowa, USA.
What types of motor does Groschopp sell?
We manufacture fractional hp electric motors—PMDC, AC Induction, Brushless DC and Universal. These motors can be converted into inline gear motors or right angle gear motors. Each of these combinations can be modified or custom engineered to make sure you are matched with the best motor or gearmotor to fit your specific needs.
How long has Groschopp been in business?

Can I have my company name on the motor instead?
Yes, many companies we sell to opt to have their motors and gearmotors private labeled.
What are Groschopp’s business hours?

What holidays are Groschopp closed for?
Groschopp is closed for the following holidays throughout the year: New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Which industries are Groschopp involved with?
We are in many different industries and applications, but some of our most common include: automotive, industrial/commercial, construction, agriculture, food processing, medical equipment, sporting goods, packaging, as well as many others.
Can I order online?
We now offer an online ordering option for small quantity purchases to make the process easier for sample motors and small projects. The return policy for these orders can be found here. For larger quantity orders, we have the quotes sent to our regional sales team so we can work with you directly to ensure you end up with the right motor to fit your specific needs and budget. We understand that a motor is an investment, and we wouldn’t want you to pay extra for something you don’t need or worse—end up with a motor that cannot perform at the standards your application requires. This also allows our team to work with you to answer any customization questions you may have.
Why can’t I find WK or NR part numbers on Groschopp’s website?
WK and NR part numbers reference Groschopp Germany motors. Although we have the same name, we are completely different companies and do not manufacture compatible motors. Check out our blog article for more questions about our motors compared to Groschopp Germany motors.
What payment options does Groschopp offer?
Groschopp accepts three methods of payment: credit card, bank transfers and terms. A sales representative will work with you to find the best payment option for you.
Is there a minimum quantity I must order?
No, we have customers who buy anywhere from one motor to several thousand; however, we do charge a minimum fee of $75. For smaller orders (1-25 pieces), there is a Fast Track department to make sure you get your order without having to wait for a larger order to go through on our production lines.
What is Groschopp’s return policy?

Where does Groschopp ship their products to?
We ship our products all over the world. Delivery times may vary depending on location. See map for details.
What do lead times look like?
Our Fast Track department can build and ship standard or modified motors in 48 hours. This typically includes orders under 25 pieces. Larger orders will run through production, and lead times for these will vary based on factors such as quantity or special material requirements.
How can I check my order status?
You can easily check the status of an order by contacting your Regional Account Manager or Customer Service Representative at 800-829-4135. They can provide you with the shipping date as well as the tracking number for shipped orders.
How do I get replacement parts?
OEMs can easily get replacement parts for your motor by contacting your Regional Account Manager or Customer Service Representative at 800-829-4135. If the design is proprietary, you will be directed to the OEM from whom you purchased the product. There is a $75 minimum charge for replacements.
What is fractional horsepower?
Fractional horsepower motors refer to any motor that produces less than 760 watts of power (1 hp). Although this is the standard for fractional horsepower motors, Groschopp’s motors have slightly different ranges:
- AC: 1/20 – 1 hp
- DC: 1/15 – 1 hp
- Brushless: 1/7 – 1/2 hp
- Universal: 1/4 – 2 1/2 hp
- Gear motors: 1/100 – 3/4 hp
How long do Groschopp motors last?
Groschopp motors are rugged and built to last each motor type performs best in certain applications. More about proper motor selection can be found in our whitepaper. For demanding applications and those with harsh environments, we will work with you to find a motor that can hold up to the especially challenging requirements.
The specs I need aren’t listed, does Groschopp offer other motors?
The products listed on our website are only a fraction of the motors and gearmotors we offer. Our proprietary software, MOTORTEC™, allows us to search thousands of standard combinations in just seconds. If you don’t see the specific motor you need, give us a call at 800-829-4135, and we will work with you to determine the right match for your application.
Does Groschopp offer stainless steel motors and gearmotors?
At this time, we have not expanded into the niche market needing stainless steel motors. However, it is something we are considering for the future.
Can I get CE, RoHS or UL certification?
Yes, Groschopp has the capabilities to meet CE, RoHS and UL certifications as well as others. A sales team member would be happy to talk with you about your specific needs.
Which motors and gearmotors can reverse direction?
All Groschopp motors and gearmotors are capable of running in the reverse direction, however, the amount of power may vary depending on the model. Talk to a regional account manager for more information.
What IP ratings does Groschopp offer?
Our standard motors are IP40 or IP44. Our blog about Groschopp’s standard IP ratings provides an overview of the IP rating for each of our standard motor types. Most of our motors can be modified to reach an IP66 rating. For more information about achieving higher ratings, contact our sales team.
What is the difference between standard, modified, and custom?
- Standard refers to catalog numbers. These are products that are ready to be built and often allow for quick turnaround times. They are the products that are listed on our DC, AC and Brushless motor and gearmotor pages.
- Modified motors are standard products that have had small adjustments made such as altering the shaft length, adding a foot mount or increasing the sealing protection to a higher rating. Common modifications can be attached online by using our “customize it” button on each individual product page.
- Custom is a blank sheet design. Our engineers will work alongside you to create a motor or gearmotor that is specific to you and your application. View our customization page for more information about custom motors or contact us to get started.
How do I wire my motor or gearmotor?
We have wiring diagrams available on each of our individual product pages. If you aren’t sure where to find the correct diagram for your motor, let us know and we can email it to you.
