History

Albers Propeller Co.

1927

John and Gerhard Albers developed a 6-volt wind charger in a farm workshop near Cherokee, IA in 1927 under the name Albers Propeller Co. The wind charger provided power to their rural family farm for charging the battery used for their battery-powered radio.

Wincharger Corporation

1934

John & Gerhard Albers, Cecil Parris, and Ernest Arndt began Wincharger Corporation in Sioux City, IA in 1934. This drew the attention of Zenith Radio Corporation who bought controlling interest of Wincharger in 1935 and the remaining interest in 1936.

Dyna Motors and Inverters

1950s

Wincharger played an important role in World War II by developing the Dyna Motor, which was used in military aircraft and ships. The war helped Wincharger become the world’s largest manufacturer of Dyna Motors and inverters. This growth allowed it to leverage its success, and expand into motors and farm generators in the 1950s post-war economy. Wincharger proved its distinction as a motor manufacturer by receiving five Army Navy E-awards for excellence as a quality supplier.

Dyna-Technologies

1968

Dyna-Technologies, Inc. purchased the Wincharger division from Zenith in 1968 and moved the small motor operations to Sioux Center, IA in 1975. In 1976, motor operations were moved to its current location on the north side of Sioux Center.

Groschopp & Co., GmbH,

1980

EMW Groschopp, Inc. was formed in 1980 when a German-based manufacturer of small motors and gear drives, Groschopp & Co., GmbH, purchased the small motor division from Dyna-Technologies to expand its operations into the United States. After growth in its business, EMW Groschopp underwent its first building expansion in 1985.

Sioux Center Plant

1996

In 1996, a German family trust acquired all company stock of EMW Groschopp, Inc. from Groschopp & Co., GmbH. The Sioux Center plant retained the Groschopp, Inc. name, but operates independently from the Groschopp & Co., GmbH (now Groschopp AG) operations in Europe.

ISO 9001:1994

1997

With a philosophy of steady growth and producing motors to the highest quality standards, Groschopp, Inc. became certified to ISO 9001:1994 in 1997 to support the growing business and customer expectations. How to use the Motor Search Tool

Narrow your search by selecting motor type, gearbox, voltage, and phase options for your desired motor.

Select a dominant variable: choose one of the three parameters to narrow your search. The selected variable determines which slider bar you will be able to manually move.

Use the slider corresponding to your dominant variable to further narrow your motor selection. The other sliders will automatically move to show available ranges based on the range of your selected variable.

Results will upload as your search criteria changes. If you have any questions regarding your results or how to use the search tool, you can chat with us using the green tab on the left-hand side of your screen.

Note: Groschopp Universal motors are custom built to fit your application so no additional options are available to narrow the search. Selecting the Universal motor type will prompt a message taking you to the Universal product page.
