SIOUX CENTER, IA – Earlier this month, 22 members of the Dordt College Engineering Society visited Groschopp, Inc. to learn more about Groschopp’s manufacturing and engineering departments.
The Society is a social networking group of Dordt College Engineering alumni, students, and faculty in its second year of meeting. This year, the Society is visiting several local businesses, and exploring the depth of engineering opportunities in the community. Groschopp, Inc., a fractional horsepower motor and gearmotor manufacturer in Sioux Center, was the first local business tour arranged by the Society.
“It is a great opportunity for the Dordt College Engineering Society to build relationships between the college and local businesses,” said Travis Blankespoor, Groschopp engineer and member of the Society. “It is fun to see engineers of different ages, experience levels and disciplines learn from one another.”
The gathering began with an introduction of Groschopp and its engineering capabilities and production lines. This was followed by a tour of the facility which explained some of the processes for designing, engineering and manufacturing that goes into building a motor. The tour also highlighted some of the various tools used by Groschopp’s engineering department to develop and test their designs. The remainder of the visit consisted of a social time with light refreshments amongst the attendees.
