Medical equipment must be reliable and have a long life even with hours of continual usage. An MRI cooling pump manufacturer came to Groschopp because they were having extensive failures with the motors from their previous supplier. Groschopp did some testing and found the old motors were failing due to heat issues.
The two engineering teams worked together to develop a single phase AC motor that could handle the requirements of this application. Groschopp customized this motor with a special mounting foot, capacitor and bracket, end bells, and shaft; they also made adjustments to the bearing grease that was used.
While working toward a solution, Groschopp tested the designs for operating and max speeds, temperature ranges, and vibration to make certain the manufacturer would not have issues with the new motors as well. After a 50,000 hour life test in the high temperature, continuous duty application, Groschopp’s motors were still running strong.
