Ingress Protection (IP) ratings are used universally to classify the level of protection that electric motors have from solids and liquids. We offer standard IP ratings that will work for many applications, but motors working in harsh environments or that need to be washed down regularly should consider having the IP level increased to ensure protection. Modifications can be made to Groschopp motors allowing them to reach an IP66 rating. This means the motor is fully enclosed and protected against dust and can be temporarily flooded by water (limited ingress protection). Below is a list of standard motors with their corresponding IP rating.
Standard IP for DC Motors
Groschopp’s standard DC motors are built using either IP40 or IP44 ratings, which means they are protected from solid materials over 1mm in thickness and have either no protection from water (IP40) or are protected from water sprays from all directions with limited ingress (IP44).

Groschopp’s standard IP rating for AC and Brushless motors is IP44. Again, this means these motors are protected from solid objects over 1mm, and sprays of water from all directions with limited ingress.
