Blank Sheet vs Quick Turnaround Customization

February 11, 2014

UPDATE: Our capabilities have remained the same, however, we have changed the way we refer to the different levels of customization. Custom (blank sheet) is a product that is customized and requires engineering time. Modified refers to products that can have small alterations done such as changing the shaft, adding a foot mount, etc. The content has been modified to include both the old and new terms.

In a previous post, we mentioned that every manufacturer has a “standard” product line. We fit the mold with our 8,000 catalog options. However, what if you need a custom motor? Or, what if you need a motor with only slight changes or additions made? We can help you out in either case. Here is what you should know about two common options: blank sheet and quick turnaround customization.

Blank Sheet (Customization)

These motors are built from the ground up. If one of our catalog motors doesn’t fit your needs, we will work with you on designing and manufacturing a motor that will. Our sales and engineering team will work with you to find out what you need, and then create a new, one-of-a-kind motor built specifically for your application.

Groschopp designed and manufactured this custom motor and fan combination. This process does take weeks to months, but we would love to work side-by-side with you to design, build, test, and manufacture a motor for your application.

Blank Sheet Quick Facts

  • If a catalog motor doesn’t meet your needs, we can design and build a custom one
  • It will be designed to fit your specific application
  • We can do a variety of custom work, including custom housings

Quick Turnaround Customization (Modification)

Something that we take great pride in is our 48-Hour Customization option. This is made possible by having our engineering, machining, and manufacturing services all located within one facility. We can take one of our catalog motors, modify it, and ship it within 48 hours. There are a variety of modification options available, including custom drive shaft, rear shaft, drive end bell, rear end bell, brush card, and mounting bearings.

Quick Turnaround Facts

How to use the Motor Search Tool

Narrow your search by selecting motor type, gearbox, voltage, and phase options for your desired motor.

Select a dominant variable: choose one of the three parameters to narrow your search. The selected variable determines which slider bar you will be able to manually move.

Use the slider corresponding to your dominant variable to further narrow your motor selection. The other sliders will automatically move to show available ranges based on the range of your selected variable.

Results will upload as your search criteria changes. If you have any questions regarding your results or how to use the search tool, you can chat with us using the green tab on the left-hand side of your screen.

Note: Groschopp Universal motors are custom built to fit your application so no additional options are available to narrow the search. Selecting the Universal motor type will prompt a message taking you to the Universal product page.
