How To Set Gain on a Groschopp Brushless Control

Hello and welcome to today’s Groschopp Tech Tip. Today I will be demonstrating how to set gain on Groschopp’s 750-30-0004 Brushless control. Although we are using this control, the same process may be used on other Groschopp Brushless controls.

Brushless motors typically use hall effect sensors to send speed and position information back to the control. This information is necessary for a brushless motor to operate because it requires closed loop control schemes. The Gain trimpot allows the control to be used on a wide variety of Groschopp motors and must be correctly set before continuously running the motor.

In order to change the gain on your control, you need to locate the MIN, MAX and Closed Loop Gain trimpots. 

Step one: Set your MAX trimpot to the position shown in this figure .

Step two: Set your MIN and gain trimpot fully counter clockwise. The motor should now run at max speed.

Step three: Advance your speedpot, or the knob on the control, fully clockwise to get the motor turning. Your motor should start at full speed. If it is not at full speed, adjust your MAX trimpot clockwise until it reaches full speed.

Step four: Slowly turn the gain trimpot counter clockwise until the motor speed decreases slightly. Then rotate the trimpot back clockwise just enough to return the motor to full speed.

Side note: If you rotate the gain trimpot fully clockwise and the motor speed doesn’t decrease, rotate the MAX trimpot counterclockwise just enough to make the speed decrease slightly. Then rotate the Gain trimpot counterclockwise just enough to return the motor to full speed.

You have successfully set the gain on your groschopp Brushless DC control.

How to use the Motor Search Tool

Narrow your search by selecting motor type, gearbox, voltage, and phase options for your desired motor.

Select a dominant variable: choose one of the three parameters to narrow your search. The selected variable determines which slider bar you will be able to manually move.

Use the slider corresponding to your dominant variable to further narrow your motor selection. The other sliders will automatically move to show available ranges based on the range of your selected variable.

Results will upload as your search criteria changes. If you have any questions regarding your results or how to use the search tool, you can chat with us using the green tab on the left-hand side of your screen.
